Florida Couple Indicted On Mail Theft Charges

A Florida couple was arrested and charged in a mail theft scheme that spanned over multiple months, according to investigators.

A Florida couple was arrested and charged in a mail theft scheme that spanned over multiple months, according to investigators.

Connor Lee Austin, 31, and Maranda Ann Stewart, both of Starke were charged with theft of mail.

If convicted, each faces up to five years in federal prison and payment of restitution to the victims in the case.  

According to court documents and public records, Austin and Stewart stole First Class mail over multiple months in 2022.

Austin appeared in federal court on April 19, 2023, pursuant to a writ bringing him to Jacksonville from Florida State Prison, where he is serving a prison sentence of 36 months for grand theft, grand theft from a dwelling, and burglary.

The Court ordered Austin detained pending trial. Stewart appeared in federal court on April 17, 2023, and was released on a bond. Their trial is set for June 2023.

A North Carolina man was arrested in Florida for allegedly shooting a six-year-old girl and her father after their basketball rolled into his yard.

Robert Louis Singletary, 24, turned himself in to police in Tampa on Thursday, ending a two-day manhunt.

According to investigators, the child and her father were seriously injured in the shooting, while a bullet grazed an adult female, and a second adult male was shot.

A neighbor said the shooting unfolded after a basketball rolled into Singletary’s yard.

“They were playing basketball, and a ball rolled into his yard. They went to go and get it. It was just crazy,” Jonathan Robertson said.

“We just never expected it in a million years. We never expected anybody would break a gun out amongst all those kids.”

Police say the 24-year-old shooter went inside his house after seeing the ball in his yard, returned with a firearm, and fired on 6-year-old Kinsley White and her parents, Ashley Hilderbrand and William White, Tuesday after becoming enraged.

The child — who miraculously survived — spoke to local news about the incident.

“The bullet came back, and the bullet went in my cheek,” the six-year-old said.

Her father is still in a Charlotte hospital recovering from punctured lung and liver problems.

Gaston County Police Chief Stephen Zill said on Wednesday that “this sort of violence will not stand” and has charged Singletary with four counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Police will also charge Singletary with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of possessing a firearm without a license.

According to police Singletary assualted his girlfriend in December 2022 with a sledgehammer.
