A Florida man has been arrested after a road rage incident escalated to violence, leading to a shooting.

On Monday morning, around 6:45 a.m., a road rage incident occurred between two vehicles traveling eastbound on W SR 40, approaching SW 60th Ave.

Police say one vehicle was a silver Toyota Corolla and the other vehicle was a white Ford F-550 work truck.

According to a witness, the silver car was driving erratically to the point of leaving the roadway and driving in the grass at times. The driver of the silver car was Marquis Browdy, 33.

At the intersection, the road rage escalated to an act of violence that almost turned deadly, police say.

When both vehicles were stopped, Browdy exited his car and aggressively confronted the victim’s passenger window, further intensifying the situation.

Police say the victim then struck Browdy with a metal object in the face. Browdy then pulled out a gun and shot the victim while he was still sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

The victim had a gunshot wound to the right side of his lower back and was transported to a local hospital.

“Thankfully, his injury was not life-threatening. Browdy was also taken to a hospital due to his facial injury and was shortly released,” said Ocala Police Department.

“Since Browdy aggressively approached the truck before the victim hit him from within his own vehicle, and then shot the victim, OPD Detective Barth arrested Browdy for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon,” said OPD.
