A 78-year-old Florida man was arrested this week after his 80-year-old wife’s body was found dismembered in multiple suitcases.

According to Delray Beach Police, William Lowe, 78, was arrested on Aug. 2 on charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a dead human body.

Investigators say on Friday, July 21st, police responded to the 1000-block of Palm Trail after a person called 911 and reported seeing something strange in the Intracoastal waterway.

Delray Beach police detectives found a suitcase in the water with human remains inside.

A short time later, two other suitcases were also found with human remains at nearby locations along the Intracoastal (SE 7th Avenue and Casuarina Road).

Police said at the time, the victim was a white or Hispanic middle-aged woman with brown hair and approximately 5’4″ tall.

But soon after, police identified the woman as 80-year-old Aydil Barbosa Fontes, Lowe’s wife.

The victim may have had tattooed eyebrows and was wearing a floral tank top with a black undershirt and black mid-thigh shorts. The pattern on the floral shirt is provided in the above photo.

During interviews with witnesses, detectives were alerted to a man who, for several days, would stop by the water and watch one of the suitcases that were found.

Witnesses told detectives they confronted the man, and when asked what he was doing, he appeared nervous and quickly left in a gold Ford Taurus, CBS 12 reported.

According to the outlet, detectives obtained surveillance footage that showed Lowe climbing down a dock nearby with a Cheesecake Factory bag.

According to investigators, police found a tote bag wrapped with a man’s belt containing a human head with a gunshot wound.

Delray Beach Police told CBS 12 that the suspect put his wife’s body parts into five bags, including luggage and a “tote bag” from The Cheesecake Factory.

While searching Lowe’s residence, investigators found blood splatters throughout the home and blood in the shower drain. A 9mm firearm was also located at the home, CBS 12 reported.

“I’d say this is probably the worst I’ve seen,” Delray Beach Police Detective Mike Liberta told the outlet.

Police said Lowe refused to give a statement, and they do not know what might have led him to kill his wife.

Lowe is being held without bond in Palm Beach County.
