Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said he believes Democrats and the liberal media are “green-lighting” the possible assassination of former President Donald Trump.
Gaetz made the comments in an interview with former Trump adviser-turned-podcaster Sebastian Gorka.
Gorka argued that Democrats, realizing that President Joe Biden is now indefensible, have started promoting Trump as a Nazi, a fascist, and a dictator as their 2024 presidential platform.
“I think it’s even worse. I think they are green-lighting assassination,” Gaetz replied in the interview, which he posted to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.

“When you hear people talk about Trump as [Adolf] Hitler or some sort of authoritarian tyrant, they’re trying to justify violence against him and violence against his supporters,” Gaetz added.
“It’s sickening and un-American. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. But they’re done having a debate with us about trade policy or foreign policy or economic policies.”
Instead, he added, Democrats now argue Republicans are “just all so evil to our core that we have to be vanquished from the debate. That’s where you really see societies erode and fall apart.”
Commentator Tucker Carlson has made the same argument, saying on his show in August that America was “speeding toward” Trump’s murder as liberals heat up the rhetoric against him.
Podcaster and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino has also said Trump’s enemies want him killed. On a recent broadcast, Bongino said the plot “plot to take out Trump is metastasizing.”

Liberals have claimed that Carlson, Bongino and others are promoting a “conspiracy theory.”
Yet, just after Thanksgiving, the left-wing website Business Insider, which was one outlet that condemned Carlson for spreading the alleged “conspiracy theory,” ran a story under the headline: “Here’s what happens if Donald Trump dies while running in the 2024 presidential election.”
Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, told Gorka that he wants to engage liberals in the “battlespace of ideas.”
On the other hand, Democrats want to utilize efforts such as weaponizing the justice system against Trump or have him removed from the ballot.
“The American people are going to stand for it,” said Gaetz.
He added that it is imperative that Republicans win at the polls. And to do that, they must first focus on election and voting integrity.
