Former President Donald Trump once predicted the erasing of America’s history would not end if, in the name of alleged racial justice, Confederate monuments were simply destroyed or hidden.

Now, seemingly to fulfill that prophecy, Jacksonville’s left-wing Mayor Donna Deegan is set to tear down a monument to President Andrew Jackson, the person the city she governs is named after.

On X on Thursday, the Duval County Republican Party highlighted recent comments by radical Democrats who want Jackson’s statue removed from downtown Jacksonville.

The impressive bronze monument shows Jackson, who served as Florida’s first territorial governor in 1822, in uniform while mounted on a rearing horse.

Earlier this week, Deegan single-handedly ordered the removal of a monument called the “Tribute to the Women of the Southern Confederacy” from Springfield Park.

While local Republicans, such as state Rep. Dean Black, asserted the move was an abuse of power, the city attorney’s office claimed Deegan had sole authority to remove the statute because it did not involve spending city funds.

“Symbols matter. They tell the world what we stand for and what we aspire to be. By removing the confederate (sic) monument from Springfield Park, we signal a belief in our shared humanity. That we are all created equal. The same flesh and bones. The same blood running through our veins. The same heart and soul,” Deegan said on X in defending the decision.

Yet her move only made Jackson the next target.

On X, her allies called for the tearing down of the monument to the 19th-century war hero and two-time president.

“The conscious left will not stop until we remove all symbols of racism & slavery. The way the radical white I mean right worships monumental is a sign of desperation. They really could care less about the monuments. They just care about not allowing us to gain any dignity,” Leslie Scott Jean-Bart, a member of Deegan’s transition team, wrote on X on Thursday.

Another of Deegan’s transition advisers, Hope McMath, on Thursday simply wrote on X, “He’s next!” That was a day after she praised Deegan for tearing down the other Confederate memorial: “Thank you to our Mayor for doing what others would not, with plenty of pressure upon her.  We can do hard things, especially when you put the right women in charge!”

On X on Thursday, the Duval GOP criticized Deegan for her heavy-handedness and historical illiteracy.

“Given Mayor Deegan’s newfound eagerness for executive fiat, the Duval GOP seeks immediate clarity to whether the Mayor wants to remove the statue of Andrew Jackson and any other monuments the Mayor may deem offensive,” Duval Republicans posted. “This lawless Mayor and her team have made it clear: their objective is to radically transform Jacksonville and erase all our history. The City Council must act to stop these radicals!”

“The radical left won’t stop until they tear down every historic marker in Jacksonville. Why? Because our historical leaders weren’t ‘woke’ enough,” the party said in another post. “They want future generations to grow up only knowing about their radical leftist ideology, not about what makes America the most exceptional country on earth. We will NOT stand for it!”
