Sen. Marco Rubio demanded that America’s Catholic president personally do more to actually defend the faith.
In a recent letter to President Joe Biden, the Florida Republican expressed concern for the “dramatic increase” in violence against Catholic houses of worship — a sign of the “religiously motivated attacks” that seldom bring consequences to the perpetrators.
“I demand you speak out on the growing number of attacks on Catholic churches and make investigating and fully prosecuting these incidents an urgent priority for your administration,” wrote Rubio, who is also Catholic.

The senator noted that since May 2020, U.S. Catholic churches sustained more than 400 attacks, with most of those occurring after Biden became president.
One primary motivator for the vandals was the Supreme Court’s leaked decision in May 2022 that overturned the 1973 Roe v Wade abortion ruling.
“These attacks are not random nor are they the result of a temporary lapse in judgment by perpetrators. They are motivated by a deep and abiding animosity towards religious institutions and people of faith,” Rubio argued.
Rubio then noted several examples from around the country, including an incident in Ocala when a deranged driver rammed a van into a church and set its foyer on fire with worshipers inside.

Rubio reminded Biden that, as president, he has a constitutional duty to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”
“It should be of highest priority for your administration to protect and defend any group from violence,” he added. “Yet, your administration’s passivity causes people of faith across America to seriously doubt whether you are willing and able to defend Catholic churches and their parishioners.”
Instead, Biden’s FBI goes after Catholics.
Rubio cited the infamous internal FBI memo from last year that painted devout, conservative Catholics as racist extremists.
On another front, the senator pointed out that Biden’s Justice Department has sought to imprison conservative Christians who pray outside abortion clinics for years-long sentences for allegedly violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, while “attacks on pro-life pregnancy resource centers go ignored and unpunished.”
“This imbalanced enforcement is despicable, and it undermines any notion that your U.S. Department of Justice enforces the law without bias or prejudice,” Rubio wrote.

“Among other things, the wave of attacks against Catholics suggest that many activists would like countless Americans to abandon their genuine religious faith and submit to a godless, progressive pseudo-religion,” Rubio added.
“Irrespective of any value judgment on the ends of that goal, the means have proven to be anti-First Amendment, anti-American, and violent.”
“You have a responsibility to protect Americans from harm. I demand you condemn the growing number of attacks on Catholic churches and make combating these incidents an urgent priority for your administration by prosecuting each and every offender to the fullest extent of the law,” Rubio concluded.
