Florida Sheriff Deputy Saves Choking Woman At Texas Roadhouse

An off-duty sheriff’s deputy jumped into action on Wednesday when a woman at Texas Roadhouse began choking.

Officials say Deputy C. Morito, with Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, was preparing to leave Texas Roadhouse after eating dinner with his family, when he noticed a woman who appeared to be choking.

Deputy Morito, who was off duty, rushed over to the woman and asked if she was choking and if he could help, to which she responded by nodding her head.

Morito quickly positioned himself to perform the Heimlich maneuver in an attempt to dislodge the food.

After several attempts, Deputy Morito was able to dislodge the food, which opened the woman’s airway.

Deputy Morito remained with the woman, who was now alert and responsive until Hernando County Fire & Emergency Services arrived on the scene to further evaluate the woman’s condition.

The woman is expected to make full recovery.

“It is a good feeling to know we have someone like Deputy Morito ever ready to help our community in a time of need. We applaud the dedication, compassion, and quick thinking that Deputy Morito displayed, even while off duty having dinner at a local restaurant,” said Major K. Hayden, Law Enforcement Bureau Commander.
