PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old Georgia man is dead, and a Palm Harbor, Florida woman suffered serious injuries in a crash that happened around 11:40 pm on Sunday.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a BMW 335XI, driven by a 20-year-old man from Grovetown, Georgia, was traveling southbound on US-19 at a high rate of speed.
Troopers say a Kia Optima, driven by a 63-year-old Palm Harbor woman, was traveling westbound on Klosterman Road at the intersection of US-19 under a green traffic signal.
According to FHP, the BMW failed to stop for a red traffic signal, entered the intersection, and collided with Kia.

Upon impact, both vehicles rotated to a stop along the roadway’s west side with BMW colliding with a utility pole and the driver being ejected.
Both drivers were transported to area hospitals, with the Georgia man suffering fatal injuries and the Palm Harbor woman suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
