Georgia Rep. MTG Expresses Frustration As Biden Impeachment Probe Shifted To Back Burner

Not long ago, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz promised that new House Speaker Mike Johnson was a significant upgrade over previous Republican leader Kevin McCarthy.

But now, some aren’t so sure.

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Johnson, and the ouster of McCarthy, whom she had supported through two Republican fights over the post, after learning Johnson doesn’t believe House Republicans have generated enough evidence to support impeaching President Joe Biden.

On Saturday, Newsweek cited a Washington Post report that claimed Johnson told moderate Republicans that “insufficient evidence” existed to support an impeachment effort of Biden.

That came after House Republicans revealed that Biden received payments of more than $200,000 from China and that Hunter Biden, who once complained about having to pay his father’s bills, was paid more than $1 million by Burisma.

Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company that hired Hunter for its board, overcame a corruption probe after Joe Biden, then as vice president, led the effort to withhold U.S. aid until the prosecutor was fired.

GOP Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska told the Post after the meeting with Johnson, “We’ll just go where the evidence goes and we’re not there yet. Most of us are saying, we can’t even get a single Democratic vote on this right now. I think the voters will reject what they are seeing when it comes to Biden [policies] — but high crimes and misdemeanors? I don’t think we’ve seen that or enough data to really make a good case and I feel like [Johnson] really agreed with us on that.”

Yet when Democrats controlled the House under then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi had no problem impeaching former President Donald Trump twice with little to no evidence of wrongdoing.

Just two weeks ago, Johnson told Sean Hannity of Fox News that it was “very likely” Biden committed impeachable offenses when he served as VP.

Johnson’s backtracking was frustrating to some on the right, especially to Greene.

“Not long ago we had a Speaker that believed in impeachment so much that he launched an inquiry without a floor vote, but you were told he was bad,” Greene posted on X (formerly Twitter). “After 8 R’s and all D’s ousted him, we found checks to Joe Biden and evidence of a massive money laundering scheme and now the new guy you are told is way better doesn’t want to impeach.”

“Such progress.”

In response, the popular conservative account Catturd tweeted, “The entire Republican Party, all of you, are a joke.”

Greene answered, “I hear ya and when I got as mad as you are, I stopped ranting on social media and hitting the post button all day and I ran for Congress and here is my score and proof of my actions.” She was referring to a “liberty score” of 100 by the website Conservative Review.

“I know you live in Florida somewhere, win a seat and come help make a difference bc [because] we need 218 votes to accomplish anything,” she added. “I need more Republicans in Congress that will take action bc words are meaningless.”
