The hunters have become the hunted. A key Republican lawmaker on Thursday announced that the GOP-led House will investigate the Democrats’ special committee formed to investigate the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, a Georgia Republican and chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, told The Hill Thursday that his panel would look into the potential security breaches created by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s mismanagement of events that day.

Loudermilk said his panel would also investigate the now-defunct J6 special committee hand-picked by Pelosi.

The focus on the J6 committee has emerged from Fox News host Tucker Carlson releasing previously unseen footage of the riot this week. He obtained the video footage from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The footage released by Carlson has raised serious questions about the Democrats’ J6 narrative, including that American democracy hung in the balance, even as a riot of unarmed Trump backers was quelled within about three hours.

“We’ve got to get through the documents. We need to do some interviews with people. But at some point, we will have some hearings,” Loudermilk told The Hill. “We need to give a serious, in-depth investigation into what happened that day, which the J6 committee didn’t do. We need to know, where were the security failures … as well as what do we need to do to fix it.”

Loudermilk’s committee has also set up an online portal to accept complaints or tips from people with knowledge of the J6 riot.

Former President Donald Trump and other Republicans have called for the GOP to investigate the actions of Pelosi’s hand-picked committee, which included two Anti-Trump Republicans.

“Great courage shown by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy in releasing the surveillance footage to Tucker Carlson so that our Country, and indeed the World, can see what really went on during the January 6th events,” Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.

“A whole new, and completely opposite, picture has now been indelibly painted. The Unselect Committee LIED, and should be prosecuted for their actions.”
