HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County is exploring the option to purchase 3.5 acres near the University of South Florida for future use as affordable housing and possibly a community center and is asking for public input on the idea.
The property is at 12703 N. Florida Ave., Tampa, FL 33612, near North Florida and 127th avenues.
The proposed purchase price is $1.86 million, and the land would undergo a survey, environmental review, and engineering feasibility study during the six-month due diligence period. If the County purchases the property, the land would be maintained by Hillsborough County Affordable Housing Services.
The property would be purchased from Faith Lutheran Church. Part of the land would be used to meet buffering and landscaping requirements.
County officials would like to use the property for affordable housing or potentially as a community center.
The County will conduct a virtual engagement using The Hillsborough Engagement Hub to collect feedback from the public. Public comment for this project is open between Monday, Aug. 1, and Sunday, Aug. 14. Visit HCFLGov.net/HCEngage to participate.
