HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Recognizing the strongest defense against Hillsborough’s mosquitoes is a well-informed population, Hillsborough County Mosquito Management Services is hosting an educational science fair and mosquitofish giveaway.

Residents can come to the Mosquito Management headquarters on Saturday morning to learn about different kinds of mosquitoes (we track more than 40 types in Hillsborough County), and how they can help prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.

There will be activities for all ages: 

  • Receive free mosquitofish (photo ID showing residence in Hillsborough County is required) 
  • Learn more about the science behind Hillsborough’s mosquito management program 
  • Learn how to prevent mosquitoes around the home 
  • View live larvae, pupae, and adult mosquitoes and learn about their ecology and life cycle 
  • Learn about the diversity of mosquito species found throughout the county and how to recognize key species that transmit diseases 
  • Meet the program’s surveillance chickens and see how they help manage mosquitoes 
  • View firsthand the vehicles, aircraft, and other equipment used in mosquito management 
  • Save a life by donating blood to OneBlood
