For four years, we heard from liberals that it was acceptable to publicly berate former President Donald Trump with vulgar insults, unfounded accusations of treason, and even death threats because it was speech protected under the First Amendment.
So, one Tennessee homeowner seems to think a little turnabout is fair play.
In Munford, Tennessee, the mayor said he is powerless to do anything about a profane flag aimed at President Joe Biden and his supporters because of the First Amendment.
The flag, which mimics one from the Trump campaign, says “F— Biden and f— you for voting for him.”
Local media in Munford reported last week that Mayor Dwayne Cole said he has received several complaints about the flag, which flies from a staff posted on the unidentified homeowner’s porch, but he is powerless to stop it.
“It’s vile. It’s vulgar. It’s protected speech under the Constitution,” Cole told WREG, adding that he had the city attorney research whether officials could do anything. “If I had the authority to make him take it down, I would definitely do that.”
Cole said the homeowner blew off his request to remove it after he met with him personally.
WREG reported that the city’s ordinance on campaign signs does not apply because it’s on the porch and not a yard sign.
The local reporter showed that he attempted to interview the homeowner, and received a polite “no thank you” from the man’s wife.
“Perhaps,” he said, “the flag speaks for itself.”
Perhaps indeed.
The Blaze noted that Biden is generating similar responses elsewhere.
A New Jersey woman posted a “F— Biden” in her yard, which sits near an elementary school. The town, Roselle Park, seeks to fine her $500 a day until it is removed because, the mayor said, city laws prohibit “sexually profane things” on their property. The mayor added that the problem is that the sign is just a block from the school.
Meanwhile, according to The Blaze, similar controversies have erupted in Erie, Pennsylvania, Hazlet, New Jersey, Fairfield, Ohio, and Jackson, Michigan.
In Ohio and Michigan, the homeowners fly the same flag as the Tennessee resident.
