Fisherman Art Weston of Kentucky will never have to fib on the one that got away, as he might have landed one of the biggest Alligator Gar ever.

On September 2, Weston, 52, of Kentucky, caught a 283-pound alligator gar in the southeast Texas reservoir of Sam Rayburn Reservoir with a 6-pound fishing line.

Kirk Kirkland, a well-known gar fishing expert and guide for the International Game Fish Association, had Weston with him on board his boat.

In a recent interview with the IGFA, Weston, who presently holds 30 of the 56 IGFA records, stated that Kirkland is a world record guide.

The catch is being examined by the IGFA and may shortly set new records.

The organization is looking at this catch, which weighs almost as much as an average college or NFL lineman, for two possible records.

The first is the All-Tackle world record for alligator gar, which is currently at 279 pounds and was set by Bill Valverde on December 2, 1951, in Rio Grande, Texas.
