Lakeland Woman And St. Pete Man Killed In Crash On I-275 In Tampa

A Lakeland Woman and St. Petersburg man were killed in a crash that happened around 7:30 am on Monday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

TAMPA, Fla. – A Lakeland Woman and St. Petersburg man were killed in a crash that happened around 7:30 am on Monday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say a 51-year-old Clearwater man, driving a pickup truck northbound on I-275 at the exit ramp for the Veterans (SR-589), looked down at his phone and failed to see stopped traffic in front of him.

The pickup truck slammed into a car killing both the driver, a 53-year-old Lakeland woman, and the passenger, a 39-year-old St. Pete man.

Troopers say 6 cars in total were involved in the crash with multiple people sustaining minor injuries.

The exit ramp was shut down until just after 12:30 pm on Monday.
