Largo Man Dies After Sand Key Water Rescue

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The man rescued from the Intracoastal Waterway near Sand Key yesterday evening has died. He has been identified as Mario Narvaez-Narvaez, 44, of Largo.

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue had responded to a water-rescue call at 6:09 p.m. on Monday, June 16, from just north of the Clearwater Sailing Center. Narvaez-Narvaez was pulled from the water by others at the scene, who immediately began performing CPR.

When firefighters arrived, they took over the life-saving efforts. Narvaez-Narvaez was then transported to Morton Plant Hospital with what were described as possible life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
