Man Fired At Deputies, Found Dead In Plant City Home

PLANT CITY, Fla. – At approximately 7:55 a.m. on December 28, 2020, HCSO’s Communications Bureau received a 911 call in reference to a disturbance on the 1900 block of Sparkman Road in Plant City. Upon arrival, deputies found a man who had forced his way into the home and was acting erratically. An individual who was inside the residence was able to leave the home, uninjured.

The subject then barricaded himself into the home and fired multiple shots from inside the residence toward deputies. No deputies returned fire. Multiple HCSO units responded to the scene, including SWAT, the Crisis Negotiation Team, K9, Aviation and Bomb Team.

Just after 10:30 a.m., deputies saw smoke coming from the residence. A few minutes later, a single gunshot was heard. Deputies tried for hours to make contact with the subject but were unsuccessful.

At 2:45 p.m., deputies located a deceased subject inside the residence. This remains an ongoing and active investigation.

“Our deputies worked tirelessly for hours to try and bring this incident to a peaceful resolution,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I want to thank Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Plant City Police Department for their assistance during our investigation.”
