A Maryland man has been charged after stabbing a 73-year-old woman to death with a glass cutter and pocket knife and assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

On February 22, 2024, at 2:42 pm, Bel Air Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Bedford Road in reference to an assault.

When officers arrived, they located an adult female, identified as 73-year-old Mary Catherine Bland, Bel Air, suffering from stab wounds.

Also located on the scene was a 17-year-old female who had been assaulted and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Both victims were transported to medical facilities, and Bland was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later.

An immediate investigation identified the suspect as Angelo Terrell Spencer, a 24-year-old male from Abingdon, Maryland. Spencer was known to the family, and this was an isolated incident.

“There was some type of argument, which escalated, and it sounds like the victim tried to intervene, and that’s Ms. Bland, and that resulted in the assault,” Bel Air Police Chief Charles Moore told WBAL.

“With the assistance of our partners at the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer was located outside of his residence and taken into custody within 90 minutes of the initial 911 call,” said police.

At a Friday court hearing, it was revealed that Bland had suffered 25 stab wounds.

Prior to ringing the front doorbell, speaking with Bland, and forcing his way inside the house, the court record shows that Spencer first went to a nearby Home Depot and bought a glass cutter and a pocket knife, which he is accused of using to try to break into the back of the house.

“We know that it was him inside the residence. He was identified, walked away from the residence,” Moore told the outlet.
