Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) on Tuesday once again revved the engine for impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The Georgia Republican cited a poll that showed voters back her impeachment crusade by a wide margin.
“By a margin of 55%-33%, likely voters want the Homeland Security secretary out,” the Examiner reported. “The margin is even wider for those who feel he’s bad at his job of protecting the border and stopping illegal crossers, deadly drugs, and child traffickers, 64%-29%.”
The poll, conducted by the right-leaning Rasmussen Reports, showed that a significant number of Democrats want Mayorkas out. Democrats split 43-43 on the question of his impeachment.
“The American people want us to do the job we were sent to do,” Greene posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Impeaching Mayorkas isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s a popular thing to do!”
“America is under attack!” Greene said in a second X post, highlighting a NewsNation report that showed the Border Patrol had closed a critical border checkpoint in Arizona, even as the agency maintained it was “all hands on deck” to curtail the flow of illegal immigrants.
“We have so many illegal aliens coming across our border every single day that we don’t have enough manpower to catch them all or staff vital Border Patrol checkpoints,” Greene added. “Secretary Mayorkas isn’t just derelict of his duty, he’s inviting the invasion. #ImpeachMayorkas.”
Greene also took an opportunity to hammer the House Republicans who voted against her previous resolution to impeach Mayorkas.
That vote referred the resolution back to committee, where it has languished without further action.
“Republicans were elected to a House majority because the American people are sick and tired of no one in Washington being held accountable for destroying our country,” she told the Examiner. “Four of the eight [Republicans] who voted against my impeachment resolution sit on the Judiciary Committee, where the articles sit on the shelf collecting dust.”
“The American people want us to do the job we were sent to do. Impeaching Mayorkas isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s a popular thing to do!” she added.
“If voters can’t trust us to protect our country by punishing those who allow our border to be invaded, then how can we expect to win in 2024? The GOP-led House must impeach Mayorkas immediately, and that’s why I’ll be reintroducing my privileged resolution to do just that.”
