New Residents Displaced by Apartment Fire in Spring Hill

SPRING HILL, Fla. – At 5:22 p.m. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) responded to an apartment fire at the 1300 block of Sylvia Ln.  HCFES arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke and fire located in an upper apartment in a 2-story apartment complex. Fire crews advanced a hose stream into the apartment and located the fire in a kitchen with extension, of the fire, into the attic above the apartment.

Ladder Truck crews went to the roof, gaining access to the attic fire while crews below extinguished the apartment’s fire.  Because of the rapid, coordinated fire attack, the fire was confined to the apartment of origin and attic directly above the apartment.  According to the occupants, they moved in today and just turned on the utilities to that apartment.  The fire occurred while they were out.  The fire was completely under control at 6:00 p.m.

The two occupants have been referred to the Red Cross for assistance.  No other occupants of the apartment complex were displaced. The fire’s origin and cause are currently under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office.

HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 1 Ladder Truck, Fire Corps, and 2 Battalion Chiefs for a total of 19 personnel.
