ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – The City of Zephyrhills cordially invites the public to join in a celebratory occasion the renaming of Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park to Ellis Harrold Neighborhood Park.

This event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., at 39508 Lincoln Avenue, Zephyrhills, FL, 33542.

Mr. Ellis Harrold holds a special place in Zephyrhills history as the City of Zephyrhills’ first African-American employee, hired in 1962.

Breaking barriers and opening doors for future generations, Harrold’s contributions paved the way for increased diversity within the municipal workforce.

After an esteemed 34-year career, Harrold retired in 1996 from the Public Works-Sanitation Division, leaving a lasting legacy as a positive and uplifting example for his fellow City employees.

The City of Zephyrhills maintains the soon-to-be-named, half-acre Ellis Harrold Neighborhood Park.

It boasts amenities including a basketball court, picnic shelters, and a swing set, providing a vibrant space for community members to enjoy recreational activities.

The Zephyrhills City Council unanimously approved the park renaming request back in August 2023; this request was formally presented by Zephyrhills City Councilman Steve Spina, on behalf of residents of the Lincoln Heights area.

Harrold also received a mayor’s proclamation from the City of Zephyrhills last February.
