Polk County: 71-Year-Old Winter Haven Man Killed In Early Morning Crash

WINTER HAVEN, FL. – A 71-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in a crash that happened around 2:30 AM on Monday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the man was traveling eastbound on North Lake Howard Drive when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the SUV he was driving.

Investigators say the man failed to negotiate a curve, traveled across the westbound lane, and departed the roadway where the SUV struck a fence, wooden pole, and a tree in successive order before coming to final rest in the front lawn of 1639 North Lake Howard Drive.

The man was transported to an area hospital but later died from injuries suffered during the crash.
