POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A three-vehicle crash near Lakeland on Thursday left one person dead and two injured.
Around 4:44 p.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene of the crash on Ewell Road.
Following an investigation, deputies said, they learned that Thomas Holloway, 49, was traveling west on Ewell Road in a 2020 Kia Soul when he crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup being driven east by 53-year-old Jose Castro.
Then, behind the truck, the 26-year-old driver of a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, Logan Barrand, was struck by the Kia. The force of the impact was so great that the Kia’s engine broke free.

Holloway’s reason for going over the center line is unknown.
When first responders arrived, they discovered 49-year-old Thomas Holloway dead inside his car.
Barrand and Castro were both transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
