Poll: Florida Remains Top Destination For Those Looking To Leave Their Current State

One thing is certain in politics these days: Despite relentless complaining about Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, liberals who live in Florida refuse to leave, and those who don’t live here are eager to move or visit.

And a new poll shows that Florida remains the place where the largest share of Americans want to live.

Conservative pollster Rasmussen Reports published a survey last week revealing that 18% of respondents said they would rather live in Florida if they could move to any other state they wanted.

Rasmussen asked respondents two questions:

  • Do you currently live in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois or some other state?

Those six states are the nation’s most populous.

Among all respondents, California ranked second behind Florida with 14%, while Texas came in third at 12%.

As for those other three liberal states, only 8% would opt for New York, while 6% would rather live in Pennsylvania, and just 4% would pick Illinois.

The poll also found that Texans are the least likely to budge, as 70% of the state’s residents would refuse to move elsewhere.

On the other hand, Pennsylvanians would quickly take a way out. Just 30% of Pennsylvania’s residents want to remain there. New York and Illinois were not far behind. In those states, 34% each said they wanted to continue to live there.

In Florida, 52% said they want to stay in the Sunshine State.

But the poll made it clear Florida is the top choice for the exodus from liberal states.

Rasmussen asked residents of the big six where they would go, if they wanted to leave their current home. Florida was the top preference for outbound Pennsylvanians (17%), New Yorkers (15%) and Californians (13%.) Illinois residents indicated they would go to California first, and then Texas.

Florida was also the first choice for residents of the other 44 states. In the states outside the big six, 17% would head to Florida if given the choice. That was five points ahead of California and eight points above Texas.

Overall, 40% of residents in the rest of the country say they want to stay right where they’re at.

This is the second year in a row Florida led the pack.

In 2022, Rasmussen noted, 18% of respondents also selected Florida as their primary destination.
