Former President Donald Trump surged to his biggest lead yet in the Republican presidential primary, boasting a 50-point lead over his closest challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

According to Breitbart News, a Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday asked more than 700 Republicans who was their choice in the GOP primary among Trump, DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, Tim Scott, Asa Hutchinson, Chris Christie, Vivek Ramaswamy, Larry Elder, Doug Burgum, and Will Hurd.

Trump captured 62%, compared to 12% for DeSantis.

The Quinnipiac poll noted that Trump was up five points from its August poll, while DeSantis had dropped six points.

Ramaswamy, who not long ago was viewed as the upstart who could deny DeSantis’ bid to overcome Trump, clocked in at 6%, while Haley and Pence each recorded 5%, respectively.

Among Republicans, Trump also held an 81-70 rating in favorability over DeSantis, the poll revealed.

Trump’s rise over DeSantis may have been connected to his latest indictment in Georgia for trying to overturn the 2020 election.

Quinnipiac’s August poll was taken before Trump turned himself in to authorities, who released the now-iconic mugshot of the former president.

Breitbart noted that has more wind behind his sails.

Exactly 50% of GP voters said they are “firmly set” with their choice in the primary. Of those, 68% back Trump.

In a finding that will surely perplex liberals, the poll also found that Trump holds a 47-46 lead over President Joe Biden, if the election were held today.

Biden was woefully underwater with respondents when asked for his job approval rating. Just 39% said they approved of Biden’s handling of the presidency, compared to 55% who disapproved.
