Polls opened Tuesday in Florida for the Republican presidential primary election without major hitches, Secretary of State Cord Byrd told reporters.

Byrd said an electric transformer went down at one location, and a backup generator source was quickly available.

Former President Donald Trump is already the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but the ballot includes other Republicans, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has dropped out of the presidential race.

Democrats submitted only President Joe Biden’s name for the ballot, so they don’t have a primary. Ballots in some areas of the state also include local races.

As of 9:30 a.m., Byrd said 37,000 votes had been cast on Tuesday. Another 807,782 ballots had been submitted through vote-by-mail and early voting as of Monday night, Byrd said.

Florida has about 13.45 million registered voters.
