Polls Show Conflicting Favorability Between Former President Trump, Florida Gov. DeSantis

A new poll shows that among Republicans Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is the new party favorite over former President Donald Trump.

On the flip side, another poll shows former President Trump cruising past DeSantis for the 2024 nominee.

Taken in the wake of the GOP’s disappointing performance in midterm federal elections, and released on Friday, the poll by YouGov America found that 42 percent preferred DeSantis to be the party’s standard-bearer in 2024, while 35 percent favored Trump.

Just a month ago, Trump led the incumbent governor by 45 percent to 35 percent in a YouGov America poll.

One challenge for DeSantis was that he trailed among hardcore Republicans.

A new poll shows that among Republicans Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is the new party favorite over former President Donald Trump.

Among those who identified as “strong” Republicans, Trump led 45-43.

Yet DeSantis led 38-31 among “not very strong” Republicans, and by a whopping 45-21 among those independents who said they “lean” Republican.

Republican men were more likely to back Trump over DeSantis (44 percent to 40 percent), but GOP women liked the governor better than the former president (42 percent to 35 percent).  

In one interesting question, the pollster asked respondents if either party should take the same approach in 2024 as in 2022, or do something different. By a margin of 42-31, Republicans said 2024 was time for something different — although it’s unclear what that means exactly.

The poll included 413 Republican respondents.

In a separate poll by big-village.com former President Trump leads Florida Governor Desantis 50% to 34% when asked who voters would prefer as their 2024 nominee.

On November 7th, speaking at a rally in Ohio, former President Donald Trump said a “big announcement” will be made on Tuesday, November 15th from Mar-a-Lago.

“But not to detract from very the important even critical election. And I would say in the strongest way, it’s a country, saving election. I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday. November 15th at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida,” Trump said.

At a campaign event for Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Sen. Chuck Grassley, Trump said, “In order to make our country successful, and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very probably do it again.”

The crowd erupted in applause and chants of “Trump! Trump! Trump!”

“OK?” Trump said. “Very, very, very, probably. Get ready, that’s all I’m telling you. Very soon. Get ready.”
