Stolen Leg Recovered

Prosthetic Leg Stolen From Florida Man, A Pedestrian Crash Victim, Has Been Located

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The prosthetic that was missing after Christopher Allen Harris was hit by a car on Monday, has been located.

On Monday, at about 10 p.m., Christopher Allen Harris was walking north along 49th Street and crossing 5th Ave. N. in the crosswalk, when he was struck by a westbound 2004 Infinity G35, driven by Joshua Albert Grimmer, 21,

Harris suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bayfront Health in critical condition.

The impact caused Harris’ prosthetic leg to dislodge and strike another vehicle traveling eastbound on 5th Ave N.  Both drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

The man’s prosthetic leg was taken before officers arrived at the scene. The prosthetic leg is customized with Marvel artwork and the family of the victim would like to have it returned.

On Tuesday police said, “After the widespread social media/media coverage of the missing prosthetic leg, someone called in and told us where to find it.  Our officers just found it behind a local laundromat hidden among some discarded items and returned it to the victim’s wife, moments ago.”

Police were asking anyone with information on the prosthesis to please return it to the police department. The prosthesis is worth $15,000.

Traffic Homicide detectives do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
