Publix Heiress, Philanthropist Carol Jenkins Barnett Dies At 65

POLK COUNTY, FL. – Carol Jenkins Barnett, the daughter of Publix founder, George Jenkins, died at the age of 65 Tuesday evening.

According to a statement from Publix, she died late Tuesday evening in her home, surrounded by family.

“With a heavy heart, we share the news of the passing of Carol Jenkins Barnett,” Publix said. “It is a difficult day for her family, our Publix family, and the community.”

Barnett resigned from her position on the board of Publix Super Markets Inc. following a diagnosis with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2016.

She served as chairwoman and president of Publix Super Markets Charities.

Barnett is survived by her husband Barney Barnett and her two sons, Nicholas and Wesley Barnett.
