Rep. Gaetz Echoes Trump Argument About Mexican Drug Cartels, Says ”Bomb Sinaloa”

Former President Donald Trump has been very good to those who sought to make a buck serving in his administration. Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper is one of them.

Back in May, Esper released a book about his time with Trump, and liberals were aghast at one passage. Esper claimed that Trump in 2020 wanted to “shoot missiles into Mexico to destroy the drug labs.”

“Just shoot some Patriot missiles and take out the labs, quietly” Trump reportedly said, “no one would know it was us.”

Yet Rep. Matt Gaetz is now echoing Trump as a way to deal with the fentanyl epidemic.

The Washington Examiner on Wednesday posted comments the Fort Walton Beach Republican made during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.

“There has been discussion today of fentanyl. And it irks me every time I hear someone talk about fentanyl overdoses because no one overdoses on fentanyl,” Gaetz argued. “Because I don’t think anybody really sets out to, like, score some fentanyl for a good time.”

“I get why it’s hard to keep cocaine from coming into the country. People in the United States like using cocaine. They seek it out. They pay high dollar amounts for it. And so that would be something hard to stop,” he continued. “But since people don’t set out to use fentanyl, since it’s something we don’t want in our country, we should be totally capable of stopping it. And the only reason we aren’t is because we purposefully allow our border to degrade.”

Gaetz said that did not happen “by accident,” nor did it result from “some lack of capability or some unsolvable problem set.” Rather, he continued, “because there are some groups on the Right and Left who think that they will do better economically if we just let millions of people into the country and depress the wages of Americans.”

“And the cost they’re willing to pay for that,” he added, “are the funerals and the deaths and the broken lives as a result of fentanyl poisoning. Because it is not an overdose. It is a poisoning that happens.”

A few hours after the Examiner posted the clip on Twitter, Gaetz retweeted it, adding: “Bomb Sinaloa. Not kidding.”

Sinaloa is the Mexican state that is home to one of the most powerful drug cartels in the world, the criminal organization once led by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
