Republican Congressman Slams Left-Wing Democrat For Abusing An American Flag

Florida Rep. Brian Mast slammed a left-wing Democratic counterpart for allegedly dumping the American flag in the trash.

Florida Rep. Brian Mast slammed a left-wing Democratic counterpart for allegedly dumping the American flag in the trash.

In a video posted to Twitter on Thursday, the Palm City Republican said “today’s rescue mission” was to save the U.S. flag from the garbage outside the office of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Texan and one of the most liberal members of Congress.

“So this is a WTF moment here in the House of Representatives,” Mast said in his video. “People moving offices, and this is apparently where Representative Sheila Jackson Lee keeps her American flag, her POW [Prisoner of War] flag — in the garbage can, in the trash.

“That’s her idea of appropriate for moving the American flag,” added Mast, suggesting that Lee had put the flag in the can for holding as she swapped offices in becoming part of the minority.

“WTF?” Mast continued. “What the hell is wrong with these people?”

Mast, a U.S. Army veteran who lost both legs to an IED in Afghanistan, has made his strong feeling about attacking the flag known in the past.

Last year, in an opinion article about the flag on Fox News’ website, Mast wrote, “To me, the stitches that hold our flag together represent the brave men and women who protect us and our families. Like the stitches on a flag, the men and women who came home in those caskets adorned with the stars and stripes are the ones that hold this whole experiment in Democracy together.”

On Thursday, in a comment accompanying his video, Mast noted, “Today’s rescue mission: saving Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s American flag from the garbage can. @JacksonLeeTX18, anytime you’d like a lesson on flag etiquette, let me know. It’s one of the first things we’re taught in basic training.”
