House Democrats on Thursday voted for one of those things that they have long argued isn’t happening.
GOP lawmakers pushed a bill that would overturn a local law in Washington, D.C., that allows noncitizens to vote.
It passed relatively easily in our staunchly divided Congress by a vote of 262-143. Yet all 143 were Democrats.

However, 50 Democrats actually sided with Republicans to overturn the law.
Texas GOP Rep. August Pfluger introduced the bill in January 2023 and explained why it was needed on Thursday.
“They’re encouraging people to vote for mayor, for attorney general, for members of the state Board of Education and more. And some may argue that, yes, these are just local elections. Well, there are democratic elections that regularly determine taxation, the criminal code … and the election of the various city council members who decide ordinances like who gets to vote. Not to mention that many of these are decided by close margins,” said Pfluger, according to Fox News.
A House staff report on the bill also indicated the risk the DC law posed. The law “allows noncitizens, including illegal immigrants, to vote in D.C. local elections. The Act makes no exception for foreign diplomats or agents voting in the District. These individuals often have interests separate from, or opposed to, the interests of Americans. This D.C. Act dilutes the votes of American citizens and could have a ripple effect across other large U.S. cities.”

The law was so bad that radical left-wing Mayor Muriel Bowser, who painted Black Lives Matter down Pennsylvania Avenue when former President Donald Trump was in the Oval Office, refused to sign the bill when the City Council passed it in November 2022.
The Washington Post even opposed it, saying in an editorial that “voting is a foundational right of citizenship.”
Democrats attempted to ridicule the effort to block the law. They noted that it is already illegal for illegals to vote in federal elections.
But we’ve seen other instances when they claim something is not happening, not a threat, or simply a right-wing conspiracy theory, and it actually comes to pass, such as sex-change procedures for children or whites being “replaced” by massive illegal immigration from the Third World.
Democrats, in fact, have been laying the groundwork for allowing illegals to vote – which they already can in parts of California, Maryland, and Vermont.

They apply the Founding Fathers’ argument for illegals and other noncitizens: they pay taxes yet are denied the opportunity to vote for their representatives.
Yet Republican Speaker Mike Johnson summed up the actions of an overwhelming majority of Democrats.
“Under no circumstance should anyone other than American citizens decide any American elections,” he said in a statement. “Instead, 143 Congressional Democrats voted today to allow Russian spies, Chinese diplomats, and illegal aliens to influence elections in the Nation’s Capital. It is shameful.”
