“Saturday Night Live” has long been a bastion of predictable left-wing, anti-Trump hatred.

But last weekend, the show added a new mix of ignorance and smugness to its repertoire of drivel, and conservatives were there to remind everyone that leftists once again missed the target with former President Donald Trump.

During the news satire skit known as “Weekend Update,” co-host Colin Jost, a Harvard graduate who serves as SNL’s head writer, tried to ridicule Trump by mocking his use of the term “de-bank” in a speech.

In a campaign stop in New Hampshire, according to The Daily Mail, Trump declared, “We’re also going to place strong protections to stop banks and regulators from trying to de-bank you from your — your political beliefs, what they do! They want to de-bank you.”

The term has gained currency as woke banks sought to punish Canadian truckers, gun owners, and others on the right for unapproved opinions.

Jost apparently missed the trend.

“Trump did have a slight stumble this week while talking about banks, and he introduced an interesting new term called de-bank,” Jost said. “I don’t know what the hell de-bank means, but you might have to take ‘de-ambulance’ to see ‘de-doctor.'”

Well, he soon learned, as conservatives on social media rallied for Trump.

The X account End Wokeness posted, “This is what happens when you live in your own echo chamber. Not one SNL writer or audience member realized that de-banking is a real thing actually happening to the right.”

“Canada did it to the truckers. JPMorgan is doing it to conservatives and Christians. It was done to J/6 protestors. All it takes is a simple Google search. De-banking is real.”

The Mail noted that Steve Guest, a former aide to Sen. Ted Cruz, said on X: “The woke smugness from SNL is out of control,” while conservative activist Doug Powers added, “SNL’s in such a hurry to dunk on Trump that they made themselves look like idiots again.”

Fox News media analyst Joe Concha said of “SNL,” “If MSNBC and ‘The View; could somehow procreate, this show in its current form would be the result. … Because the cast and the writers of this show live in such an elitist bubble, they make utter fools of themselves in not knowing what it means.”

One X user posted a short video of Google searches showing law firms, LinkedIn, the Collins Dictionary, the conservative group Alliance Defending Freedom, Reuters, and others explaining de-banking and its effects.

The X user Western Lensman, noting that Trump’s British ally Nigel Farage was de-banked, added, “The media is comprised of low-IQ, bubbled buffoons who somehow see themselves as your intellectual betters.”

Scott Adams, the creator of the cartoon strip “Dilbert,” added, “The left debanks while the right debunks.”
