SPRING HILL, Fla. – A Spring Hill man has been arrested after an altercation inside of a Spring Hill jewelry store.

On Monday, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Nature Coast Jewelers on Forest Oaks Boulevard in Spring Hill in reference to a physical disturbance.

When deputies arrived, it was reported that a man had come into the business acting very strangely, began shouting at the staff demanding to go into the back room of the store to find his brother, and then proceeded to enter into a physical altercation with one of the store’s staff members when told to leave.

Deputies say the man’s brother was not at this store and the staff did not know this individual or any of his family members.

During this physical struggle several display cases were knocked over and broken. The male subject then fled the store on foot.

Several deputies responded to the area and quickly located him at another shopping plaza nearby.

The suspect, identified as Juan Huertas, 34, provided a false name to deputies when contact was made and resisted the deputies attempt to detain him, kicking one of the deputies in the center of the chest as they tried to place him into the patrol vehicle.

Huertas was placed into custody and transported to the Hernando County Detention Center where he was booked in with the following charges.

  • Battery
  • Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Providing a False Name to Law Enforcement

Huertas is being held on a $7,000 bond.
