Spring Hill Man Says Gun ‘Accidentally’ Fired Killing His Live-In Girlfriend

SPRING HILL, Fla. – A 61-year-old Spring Hill man is behind bars after deputies say he shot and killed his girlfriend Wednesday.

Around 10:46 pm on Wednesday, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on St. Ives Boulevard within the Pristine Place community in Spring Hill for a reported shooting.

The suspect, later identified as Roland Maurice Akins, 61, was immediately taken into custody by deputies at the scene.

Deputies located an adult female victim inside the residence who was deceased from a gunshot wound.

Akins told investigators he was involved in an argument with his live-in girlfriend, and he was trying to get the victim to leave his home.

Adkins said the victim was holding a gun during the argument, and when he was finally able to gain possession of the gun, the firearm accidentally fired, striking the victim.

Following questioning, Adkins was arrested on a charge of Homicide. He was transported to the Hernando County Detention Facility, where he is currently being held without bond.
