Street Sweeper Struck By Corvette In Brandon, Killing A 57-Year-Old Thonotosassa Man

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – A 57-year-old Thonotosassa man was killed while operating a street sweeper at a Publix Parking lot Friday night around 11:23 pm.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a street sweeper was operating in the Publix shopping center in the 900 block of West Brandon Boulevard, near Robertson Street. While cleaning the parking lot, the street sweeper exited the parking lot, entered the eastbound lanes of Brandon Boulevard, and conducted a U-Turn so as to return to the same parking lot.

Troopers say that while completing the U-Turn, the street sweeper entered the path of a 2016 Chevy Corvette which was traveling eastbound in the center lane of Brandon Boulevard.

The Corvette collided with the side of the street sweeper ejecting the man from and into the path of the street sweeper which continued traveling forward and struck the driver.

Troopers say the man suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
