TAMPA, Fla. – As the official start of hurricane season looms, Tampa Fire Rescue is taking a proactive stance by hosting its 3rd Annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo this Saturday, May 31, 2025. The free, family-friendly event aims to equip residents, businesses, and entire communities with the crucial knowledge and tools needed to effectively prepare for and recover from hurricanes and other natural disasters.

The expo will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Barksdale Senior Center, located at 1801 N. Lincoln Ave., Tampa, FL 33607.

This year’s event will feature prominent local meteorologists Dave Osterberg from FOX 13 Tampa Bay and Ruben Capote from Telemundo Tampa. Both will offer their expert insights into the upcoming hurricane season, share vital weather preparedness tips, and engage with the community by answering questions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn directly from various City of Tampa departments and local partner organizations about safeguarding their families, homes, and neighborhoods during tropical storms and hurricanes. The expo promises a comprehensive approach to preparedness, featuring interactive demonstrations, informative educational seminars, and valuable chances to connect with emergency responders, government officials, and specialized preparedness vendors.

A key offering for City of Tampa residents will be the distribution of sandbags. Up to 10 sandbags per family will be available while supplies last. Residents must present a valid ID verifying their City of Tampa residency to receive sandbags.

“We recognize the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding lives and properties during hurricane season,” stated Tampa Fire Rescue Chief and Emergency Manager Barbara Tripp. “The Hurricane Preparedness Expo serves as a platform for collaboration between vendors and the community, fostering resilience and preparedness in the face of natural disasters.”
