Tampa Teen Charged, Shooting 17-Year-Old Girl In The Back Over Pot He Purchased With Fake $100 Bill

Democratic politicians running on tough-on-crime platforms are making names for themselves in many prominent races, and some have even won elections in deep-blue cities drowning in violent crime.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Police Department has arrested a juvenile on multiple felony charges following a shooting incident last Friday.

Officers were called to the 6200 block of S Manhattan Ave at approximately 8:40 a.m. on October 14, 2022, shortly after two teenage girls had engaged in a pre-planned fight.

When the fight ended, a 16-year-old boy, who was wearing a ski mask, fired one shot at a 17-year-old girl who was engaged in the altercation as she walked away, striking her in the back. The 16-yearold boy is related to the other juvenile female who fought the victim just prior.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but survived her injuries.

According to witnesses on the scene, the fight was due to an argument over Jones purchasing marijuana from the victim with a counterfeit $100 bill on a separate occasion.

One day prior to the shooting, October 13, the victim and a friend confronted the boy over the counterfeit money and fought him too. A teenage relative of the boy asked the victim to meet her at their apartment complex the following day to fight, which is when the shooting occurred.

At the crime scene, one 9mm shell casing was recovered.

Through investigative means, detectives identified Jones as the shooter.

Investigators say, following consent to search his residence, a small black 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered with a ballistic match to the shell casing found at the scene.

The 16-year-old boy was interviewed by detectives on Tuesday night, October 18, and he confessed to the shooting.

The 16-year-old was arrested and is now facing three felony charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree attempted murder with a firearm, and aggravated battery with great bodily harm. He is being booked in the Juvenile Assessment Center.
