Trump-Associated Group Demands That Navy Punish Drag Sailor Who Disrespects The Uniform

Florida Republican Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are among a growing chorus of lawmakers who want the Navy to explain why drag queens are used to recruit new sailors.

A public-interest legal firm affiliated with former advisers to former President Donald Trump is going after the drag-queen U.S. Navy sailor hired to be the service’s “digital ambassador.”

According to a press release issued Monday, America First Legal sent a letter to Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday, and other senior leaders demanding punishment for Yeoman Second Class Joshua Kelley, who doubles as drag performer Harpy Daniels.

The Navy touted Kelley as its choice to pitch diversity in a drive to reverse its abysmal recruiting numbers.

AFL contends that Kelley “appears to have repeatedly violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice by engaging in partisan politics, acting disrespectfully towards his superiors in public forums, bringing discredit upon the military through obscene social media posts, and wearing the uniform under circumstances that imply Navy endorsement of personal views and activity.”

“America First Legal is demanding that an investigation be immediately opened into the conduct of Joshua Kelley (and into the Navy’s tolerance for his misbehavior) to prevent further damage to the Navy’s reputation,” the press release stated.

AFL noted that Kelley’s social media posts regularly champion Democrats, including encouraging voters to back left-wing candidates and denounce Republicans.

The group notes that military regulations require service members to avoid politics, even when not in uniform.

Kelley’s Twitter bio, the group added, “fails to include any disclaimers that separate the posts from the official views of the Navy, and he frequently appears in uniform and in drag in the same post, which clearly implies Navy endorsement of his actions.”

AFL also noted that Kelley regularly posts “graphic images and descriptions of sexual acts on his Twitter and Instagram pages, variously bragging about his personal sexual practices and complaining about his lack of sexual satisfaction.”

The sailor has further exhibited a “longstanding pattern of openly disrespecting his superiors and the United States Navy itself,” as well as disrespect for the commander in chief.

AFL Legal Counsel Jacob Meckler said in a statement:

“In order to preserve the Navy’s reputation, swift action must be taken to restore good order and discipline and to prevent further partisan activity that implies Navy endorsement of particular candidates and causes. America First Legal will not stand by and allow Kelley to sacrifice the military’s reputation in pursuit of his own partisan agenda.”
