Two More Texas Democrats Test Positive For COVID After D.C. Excursion

Two more Texas Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C. last week have tested positive for COVID-19, days after three others tested positive.

Nearly 60 Texas Democrats fled their state, taking off to D.C. to avoid passage of a new state voting law. maskless. On a plane.

Three of the nearly 60 Texas House Democrats tested positive for the virus while staying in Washington, D.C., according to Texas House Democratic Caucus leadership.

One of the three members found out about their positive test result late Friday evening, but doesn’t have symptoms, caucus officials said.

Two more tested positive on Monday, fully vaccinated.

“In light of some positive COVID-19 tests over the weekend, the House Democratic Caucus has decided to go beyond CDC guidance and provide daily rapid tests for all Members and staff in Washington, D.C., for this week,” the Texas House Democrats said in a statement. “As part of this precautionary testing, today two additional Members who were fully vaccinated tested positive. All of the HDC Members who tested positive are feeling good, with no symptoms or only mild symptoms.”

Texas State Representative Gene Wu (D) said, “Every member who tested positive had only mild (sniffles) or no symptoms. This is because we’ve all been vaccinated and our bodies already had the antibodies ready to combat an infection. But having antibodies doesn’t stop you from shedding viruses until they done their job.”

“All of our #txlege colleagues who tested positive are having little to no symptoms. Which is the point, get your vaccines!” said Wu.
