U.S. Rep. Greg Stuebe wonders if President Joe Biden’s multiple foreign-policy debacles are by design.
In an email to constituents Sunday, the Sarasota Republican highlighted three hotspots where Biden’s policies are failing. He also suggested that it seems Biden wants America to fail.
First, Steube noted the situation in Ukraine, where Russia on Sunday claimed it has upped the ante by deploying a new hypersonic missile for the first time.
“I do NOT support sending American Troops to Ukraine and I do NOT support our pilots conducting airstrikes in the country,” Steube said. Ukraine’s neighbors in NATO “should be assisting before the United States engages militarily in Ukraine.”
But, Steube added, “I support and voted for the humanitarian aid and military equipment transfers to the Ukrainians to help in the defense of their nation. All of this could have been prevented with strong leadership and tough economic sanctions against Russia as soon as they started their build-up along the border, but Biden and his Administration continue to fail on the world stage.”
The second Biden-manufactured disaster is in Iran, Steube said.
The congressman noted that Biden is considering lifting the terrorist-group designation from the Iranian Republican Guard, which last week claimed responsibility for launching a missile strike at a U.S. consulate in Iraq.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration is conducting talks to broker a new deal with the Iranians that supposedly will curtail their nuclear ambitions – ironically using the Russians to cement that pact.
Steube said Biden seeks to “enter into a dangerous deal with the Iranians that would give them a path to a nuclear weapon and lift sanctions on the #1 state sponsor of terror in the world.”
Thus, he joined more than 50 other GOP lawmakers in submitting a resolution opposing a “reboot” of the Obama administration’s deal with Iran and using Russia to negotiate it. The resolution says in part that “lifting, waiving, or otherwise weakening sanctions on Iran related to terrorism while Iran continues to sponsor terrorism will only provide the Iranian regime and terrorists supported by it access to the United States financial system and endanger United States national security.”
The resolution expresses Congress’ intent to stand with the Iranian people against the mullahs, to “restore every single sanction, restrictive measure, designation, waiver, or general license the Biden administration removes,” and to declare that any deal Biden cuts that is not approved by the Senate as a treaty is illegitimate.
Finally, Steube pointed to the crisis on America’s southern border.
He noted that in addition to the 2 million illegal immigrants who have already entered the country on Biden’s watch, U.S. border authorities in February apprehended 165,000 people, quadrupling the number that were taken into custody in February 2020.
“We should be sending our military to the Southern Border to protect our own sovereignty and our own country before we send troops and airstrikes to Ukraine,” Steube argued. “It’s unacceptable that the Biden administration is unwilling to address this crisis and enforce our nation’s laws at the border.”
Steube added, “It’s almost as if President Biden and his administration wants America to fail and our enemies to prosper.”
