U.S. Sen. Scott Looking For A Few Good Florida Men, Women To Nominate To America’s Military Academies

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott is now accepting applications for nominations to America’s military academies.

In an email Wednesday, the Florida Republican outlined the process for him to send a young state resident to either the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, or Merchant Marine academy.

“I have the great honor of nominating deserving young men and women from Florida each year to attend our nation’s incredible U.S. Service Academies,” Scott said in a video included in the email.

“As a Navy veteran myself, I fully appreciate those interested in serving our nation, and am grateful for the opportunity to support young Floridians eager to attend our service academies.”

Scott added, “Our United States military represents the best of what it means to be an American and a Floridian. They are true heroes.”

“I will never stop fighting for our veterans, military members and their families,” he concluded. “And I wish you the best of luck in the future. Thank you for your dedication to this great nation.”

According to the email, potential nominees must complete and submit a questionnaire from Scott’s office along with three letters of recommendation, a headshot photo, an unofficial high school transcript, and SAT/ACT scores.

The whole package is due to Scott’s office by Sept. 9.

In-person interviews will be held a month later, and Scott will submit his recommendations to the academies by Jan. 31.

Many people can be nominated – U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Fort Walton Beach once sent 30 recommendations.

But according to a 2017 Congressional Research Service report, by federal law, each service academy can accept five nominees from each senator of every state and five from each congressional representative.
