GIBSONTON, Fla. – Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, September 23, the Florida Department of Transportation’s contractor, Preferred Materials, Inc., will close US 41 (Tamiami Trail) at Big Bend Road (CR 672) in Hillsborough County.
This closure will allow crews to set up a new traffic pattern at this intersection.
This intersection is to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, September 26, weather permitting. During this closure, motorists are to detour around the work zone using Gibsonton Drive (Exit 250), I-75 and College Avenue (Exit 240B).
Electronic message boards and detour signs will assist drivers traveling through this area. Motorists should allow extra travel time as traffic delays may occur on all nearby roads during this closure. Access to emergency vehicles and businesses to be maintained.
This project is replacing the asphalt pavement with a durable concrete surface at US 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Big Bend Road (CR 672). This intersection is being reconstructed in phases and is to finish in early 2023.
In addition to the intersection improvements, this project is repaving approximately 8.5 miles of roadway between 15th Avenue and Bullfrog Creek, adding a sidewalk along the west side of US 41, and connecting existing sidewalks on the east side of US 41 from bus stops to nearby intersections.
The $25.6 million project is to finish by the summer of 2024.
