TAMPA, FL. – South Florida’s 2022 football schedule was released Thursday. The 12-game slate includes visits to Florida and Louisville and home games against BYU and UCF.

September 3 vs. BYU
The season opens on a Saturday at Raymond James Stadium against the Cougars. This will be the third meeting between the schools with the Bulls winning in 2019 in Tampa, 27-23, and falling, 35-27, in Provo last season.

September 10 vs. Howard
Former USF offensive lineman Larry Scott, a member of the Bulls’ inaugural team in 1997, is Howard’s head coach. Scott spent eight seasons (2005-2012) as an assistant under Jim Leavitt and Skip Holtz. The Bison coaching staff also includes former USF receiver and return specialist (2009-12) Lindsey Lamar.

September 17 at Florida
The game in Gainesville will be the third meeting between the teams. The Gators won last season in Tampa, 42-20, and UF took the first encounter, 38-14, in the Swamp in 2010.

September 24 at Louisville
Louisville is a former Conference USA, Big East and American foe. The Bulls are 5-6 against the Cardinals and lost the most recent meeting, 34-3, at Raymond James Stadium in 2013. The coach of Louisville that year? Charlie Strong.

October 1 vs. ECU
Conference play kicks off against the Pirates, who the Bulls won nine of the first 10 meetings against before losing the last two, including last year’s game in Greenville, 29-14.

October 8 at Cincinnati
The two-time defending conference champs and a College Football Playoff semifinalist last season will have a different look as several key players have moved on, including quarterback Desmond Ridder. The Bearcats lead the series 12-7 and have won the last four meetings.

October 15 vs. Tulane (Homecoming)
The teams have met three times previously. The Bulls won the first meeting in 2017 and the Green Wave took the last two (2018, 2021) by a combined 86-29.

October 29 at Houston
Following a week off, the Bulls travel to Houston, against whom they have lost six straight dating to 2002 when the schools were in Conference USA. The Cougars scored more than 50 in each of the last three meetings, including last season’s 54-42 win at Raymond James Stadium.

November 5 at Temple
Last season’s 34-14 win over the Owls is Jeff Scott’s only victory over an FBS team in his two seasons at USF. In that game, the Bulls piled up a school-record 421 yards rushing. Temple leads the series 5-3. Stan Drayton is Temple’s new coach after spending the past five years as the associate head coach and run game coordinator at Texas.

November 12 vs. SMU
The Mustangs have a new coach in Rhett Lashlee, who spent the last two years as Miami’s offensive coordinator. The Bulls lost last season’s game in Dallas, 41-14, evening the series at 3-3.

November 18 at Tulsa
This will be a Friday night game against the Golden Hurricane, who the Bulls lost to at home last season, 32-31, in a game that was decided in the final minute. USF has won three of five meetings.

November 25 or 26 vs. UCF
The 14th playing of the War on I-4 will take place on Friday or Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. The game has been played on Black Friday the past five years and seven of the last nine. The Knights have won five straight with last season’s 17-13 win at the Bounce House, which went down to the wire, giving them a 7-6 series lead.
