A newly-elected city commissioner in Florida couldn’t recall the words to the Pledge of Allegiance and had to be helped by the public to kick off her first commission meeting.

Miami City Commissioner Sabina Covo, a Democrat, elected to the commission in a February 27 special election, was asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The problem is, she doesn’t know it.

The commission chairwoman and the public went ahead without the new commissioner.

“Just when you thought you’ve seen it all… Florida Democrat Sabina Covo doesn’t know the Pledge of Allegiance. Alarming,” tweeted the Republican Party of Florida.

“Commissioner Covo, could you lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, please,” asked Commission Chairwoman Christine King.

“You don’t know it? Ok,” she says.
