The U.S. Military Academy is no longer about “duty, honor, country.” At least in its mission statement.

According to The Washington Times, Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, the superintendent at West Point, promoted the school’s new mission statement earlier this week, which dropped those three legendary words.

Now, according to West Point’s new mantra, per a letter Gilland sent to upcoming grads and alumni, the facility’s mission is, “To build, train and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and nation.”

Those values include loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

Gilland noted in his letter that Army Secretary Christine Wormuth and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George supported the change.

“Duty, Honor, Country” remains West Point’s official motto, as it has since 1898.

Gilland addressed that in his letter, writing, “Duty, Honor, Country is foundational to the United States Military Academy’s culture and will always remain our motto.”

In that letter, though, Gilland noted that the new mission statement resulted from 18 months of conversations with “leaders from across West Point and external stakeholders.”

It’s unclear who those “external stakeholders” are.

“Duty, Honor, Country” had been incorporated into the mission statement in 1998. The statement has been changed nine times in the past century, Gilland noted.

“Our absolute focus on developing leaders of character ready to lead our Army’s Soldiers on increasingly lethal battlefields remains unchanged,” he added.

Some conservatives were not happy that the woke Biden administration was now changing the wording.

“Wokeness has completely infiltrated our military,” Rep. Paul Gosar, an Arizona Republican, posted on X on Thursday.

Retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, former President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, added on X, “Let’s hope these timeless words endowed in the three words spoken by General Douglas MacArthur, Duty, Honor Country, don’t get translated into new Army values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity. Warfighting only works when you’re Warwinning!”
