Senate Democrats on Wednesday tossed the impeachment case against beleaguered Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In fact, they didn’t even consider it.

The partisan vote by Senate Democrats, who frequently accuse former President Donald Trump as the threat to constitutional norms, was the first time in history senators have exonerated a federal official without even holding a trial or reviewing the evidence.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “This whole impeachment was nothing more than a political show.” Some Democrats attributed the case against Mayorkas to policy disagreements.

Mayorkas in February became the first Cabinet official to be impeached while still on the job. House Republicans jammed through two counts by a 214-213 vote.

They accused the Homeland Security chief for “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” and “breach of the public trust” after at least 10 million illegal immigrants have crossed the U.S. southern border since Joe Biden became president.

That second allegation included one count of lying to Congress while under oath.

As the Times reported, Louisiana GOP Sen. John Kennedy asked, “What do you have to do to get impeached now?”

Mayorkas was impeached at a time when there was a daily drumbeat of crime news featuring illegals who had entered the country. One of the most egregious cases came shortly after GOP lawmakers punished the impeachment forward: the murder of 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, killed by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who had multiple encounters with law enforcement but who was not deported, despite having ties to a violent South American gang.

While Democrats and the media have succeeded in moving the immigrant crime wave off the front pages for the time being, the cases continue to pile up.

On Wednesday, Fox News reported that an illegal from Brazil, who entered the country in July 2021, was charged with raping a child rape yet was recently rearrested because a Massachusetts state court let him out of jail.

The court ignored a detainer request from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and let him back into the community.

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who led the charge for impeaching Mayorkas, was outraged by Schumer and his fellow Democrats’ actions.

“Chuck Schumer just refused to hold a trial for the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas who is single-handedly responsible for carrying out Biden’s deadly border invasion,” Greene posted on X.

“I’m amazed that I had to threaten to force a privileged resolution vote on my articles of impeachment every single week in order to get the House to impeach Mayorkas. It should not be this hard to bring accountability to those who are destroying our country.”

“But it’s even more outrageous that the Senate did not even hold a trial,” she added.
