Woman Shot By Deputy In St. Petersburg After Stabbing 70-Year-Old Man Multiple Times

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in St. Petersburg.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Pinellas Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Ryan shot a woman who was armed with a knife. The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was called to the scene.

The Deputy responded to a call of an armed person at a house at 14041 95th Ave N., Seminole.

A 44-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man, who are living together in a domestic relationship, had an argument. The argument turned violent, and the woman stabbed the man multiple times.

He was able to escape and run to the neighbor’s home for help. The woman chased him and used a second knife to try to pry open the neighbor’s front door.

At that point, the deputy arrived on the scene.

The woman then walked towards the Deputy with the knife raised. The Deputy ordered her to drop the knife several times, and she continued to advance. The deputy then fired several shots at her.

This evening, the victim, the 70-year-old man, is in stable condition at the hospital. The suspect, the 44-year-old woman, is hospitalized in critical condition. Her name will be released once investigators contact her next of kin.

The deputy was not injured.

Deputy Christopher Ryan has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office for three years. He is on paid administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
