As the Republican establishment seems to be coalescing behind Nikki Haley as former President Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate, young GOP voters are demanding a more populist and conservative choice.

Last week at its annual AmericaFest gathering, Turning Point Action polled more than 1,100 young GOP voters about the presidential race.

Trump was their overwhelming choice to be the Republican nominee, backed by 83% of respondents, according to Real Clear Politics, which received the results exclusively from Turning  Point.

When it came to his VP selection, 35% of those polled said Trump should pick former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson.

The next choice was businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who was backed for the No. 2 slot by 26% of respondents, RCP reported.

Carlson, as the Tampa Free Press has reported, has expressed little interest in the job. At an event in Washington earlier this month, Carlson told a private gathering of the veep post, “I have no interest in that.”

“God would have to yell at me very loud,” he added.

When RCP asked about the poll outcome, Carlson said, “I don’t think I’d be that great at that.”

Instead, he encouraged Trump to pick Ramaswamy.

As the Tampa Free Press has reported, Carlson also said recently that he would fight against Trump if the GOP front-runner picks Haley.

Ramaswamy has also said he would not be interested in the VP job — although, over the summer, Trump speculated that the biotech billionaire would be a “very good” choice as vice president.

On Sunday, Ramaswamy also told Fox Business Network that he’s not even interested in taking any job in the Trump administration, should the former president prevail next November.

Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been attacking Trump for not completely ruling out picking Haley.

The Tampa Free Press posted last week that as momentum builds inside the GOP establishment for a Trump-Haley next year, Trump closest allies, including family members, as well as conservative media personalities, such as Carlson, are urging him to pass on Haley as his choice.
