Zephyrhills Gives the Green Light, Plans For $5 Million Airport Runway Extension

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – During the February 22nd City Council Meeting, City Council awarded the bid for construction to C.W. Roberts Consulting in the amount of $5,471,542.34 to extend runway 1-19 to 6,200 feet.

This contract also includes Taxiway B Extension, paved runway shoulders, and construction of an access road.  Extending the runway will allow Zephyrhills Airport to accommodate larger aircraft, which is expected to bolster the industry in the surrounding airport vicinity.

The runway extension is due to be completed in November 2021.

Airport Director Nathan Coleman of the project, “Extending the runway is an important step in the ongoing redevelopment of the Zephyrhills Airport. These projects are occurring so that we can keep up with the pace of continued growth that Zephyrhills is experiencing.”

In addition to the runway extension, proposed plans for continued redevelopment include:

  • Build corporate-style hangars intended for jet overnight parking.
  • Upgrade current facilities at the fuel farm. The fuel farm contract is anticipated to be awarded May of 2021.
  • Build infrastructure road connecting to Alston Avenue.
  • Rehabilitate Taxiway A: A large majority of the Taxiway A asphalt pavement is
  • 28 years old and has reached the end of its useful life. Minor longitudinal and transverse slope corrections will be made, and new FAA AC 150/5300-13A, change 1 geometry will be applied.

Airfield marking, lighting, and signage are also included in this project. The estimated total project cost $3.2m.

Currently under design phase, with projected construction in November 2021:

  • Replace and upgrade the current airfield beacon.
  • New Itinerant Aircraft Parking area to accommodate additional jet traffic.
  • New FBO / Terminal.
  • Design and construct parallel taxiways.

  1. Good. Maybe they can steal Amazon Air from LAL. Then we won’t have the 5:50 AM wake up calls when the 767 takes off.
